Atha Yoga Anushasanam
Now is the time to experience yoga – right now, in the midst of our daily lives, let yoga awaken you to each moment, to the wondrous unfolding of your self. Here and now is the only time possible to experience fulfillment in your body and peacefulness in your mind.
Atha Yoga emphasizes self-awareness through proper breathing, structural alignment and mobility, particularly of the core and spine.
The goals of the practice are to cleanse and nourish the body, increase oxygen to the blood, soothe the nervous system, and to awaken the dormant energy at the navel centre.
The navel centre or solar plexus is considered by many traditions to be the physical location or storehouse of energy in the body. With practice, we awaken this centre, potentially increasing mental and physical vitality, self-direction and empowerment.
The practice is a powerful vehicle to awaken to the subtle energies in the body and to prepare the student for meditation.
